Employees were ordered to clear the buildings after a threat was received by district officials via email , according to authorities.

Police say officials reportedly received an electronic threat on Tuesday morning as employees were preparing for students to return to class Wednesday.
The Benton School District, in Arkansas, US, provides education for more than 4,750 students from nursery age to grade 12 and employs more than 500 staff.

Responding officers were notified of the threat around 10.30 am, and shortly after district officials ordered a lockdown on the area.

Assistant Superintendent Lita Gattis sent a memo to all Benton School District faculty and staff after the threat was sent.

Her email read: “We have received a threatening email from someone who has threatened a school in the Benton School District today.

“We have cleared all employees from all buildings and ask that you not come in to school today.”

An investigation is ongoing between the Benton School District and Benton Police Department.
