The Republican remains the winner in Wisconsin following a second vote count after Green candidate Jill Stein demanded electoral authorities checked the original result – indeed, the President-elect actually gained 162 votes.

Mr Trump surged to victory by more than 22,000, the second count revealed, showing little change from the first result on November 8.Wisconsin’s recount uncovered no widespread problems or hacking by Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin, as had been reported in recent days.

Ms Stein, who paid for the recount, has also tried to get statewide recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania, but courts have stopped them.

Judge Paul Diamond said: “Most importantly, there is no credible evidence that any ‘hack’ occurred, and compelling evidence that Pennsylvania’s voting system was not in any way compromised.”

Chairman of the Wisconsin Electoral College, Mark Thomsen, said: “Completing this recount was a challenge, but the real winners are the voters.

“Based on the recount, they can have confidence that Wisconsin’s election results accurately reflect the will of the people, regardless of whether they are counted by hand or by machine.”
